The Box House is named after Wilson Peak - a 14,023-foot summit commonly known for being featured on the Coors can and being in Quentin Tarantino's movie The Hateful Eight. Nestled partially into the south facing side of our valley, the Wilson is small in stature but punches above its square footage. Design discussion focused on opening up a small space as much as possible, resulting in four massive windows walls that in total make up almost 150 square feet of glass.
Lights are wrapped around the inside allowing guests to tune the hue to exactly the preferred mood. The wood for the main table was ripped out of a local basketball court, then sanded and refinished resulting in a strong maple feel. There are exterior and interior shades for privacy when required. When in bed, you have a great view of the starts above from the south facing hill.
The entrance to the nature trail is about one minute away with the bathroom building being even closer. There are numerous distant views but waking up to the big windows in front and behind you is best. It's particularly great when the Colorado sun is melting snow off the roof to see a rain fall about 10 feet in front of you off the steel roof. The Wilson itself sits at 8,887 feet in elevation. On the interior, a window seating area and desk compliment the large windows with soft birch plywood to warm and brighten the interior. The resulting vibe is a comforting yet open feel – small in footprint but large in connection to site around you. It's a personal favorite.
