Castle Peak. A large, comfortable cabin with an expansive porch and outdoor projector. Nestled into a south facing portion of the property overlooking the valley below. The building has a mirrored footprint inside and out with 500 square feet of indoor space and the same size covered porch.
Early design discussions focused making use of the large exterior area while opening up the inside to more natural light. The outdoor patio contains a full-size hanging bed which is supported by 8 steel cables sitting below a mounted projector which rolls down to watch movies at 8,875 feet above sea level. On the inside, two massive windows were added to the backside to bring in natural light and open up views of the stars from both queen beds. A simple white interior is complimented by a natural wood ceiling.
The building's design includes extensive patio on front and excavation from the mountain in the back to block direct light allowing for cool temps inside even on the hottest summer days. But what about meals? To eat a meal as a group, guests enjoy 3 options for any weather: inside on the center table, outside under the porch, or outside in the sunlit mountainside. The resulting project hopes to capture the essence of a comfortable, modern cabin – efficient in size but including differentiating features normally absent at most cabins in nature.
